A slight variation on a recipe I received from a fellow Minnesota farm wife. A delicious soup that can also easily be cooked in a slow cooker and freezes well.
Step: 1
Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the onion, celery and carrots and saute for 5 minutes. Add the mushrooms and saute for 2 more minutes. Then add the flour and stir well. Gradually pour in the chicken broth, stirring constantly, until all has been added. Bring just to a boil, reduce heat to low and let simmer.
Step: 2
Next, add the rice, chicken, salt, curry powder, mustard powder, parsley, ground black pepper, almonds and sherry. Allow to heat through, then pour in the half-and-half. Let simmer for 1 to 2 hours. (Note: Do not boil or your roux will break.)

The word “stew” can refer to both a dish and a make dishes method. Stewing involves not fast cooking piece of meat, raw fruit or beans in a flavorful water based . It’s same as to braising, instead it makes have a few notable differences. The meat is chopped into smaller pieces instead of being cooked whole , and the water based material completely covers the contents in a stew as different to a braise’s halfway full . When meat or vegetables are cooked using this method, the resulting dish is called stew.
Stew has a perception for being a rib-sticking eating process that warms you up on a cold , winter day. It’s true ; a bowl of classic beef stew does have warming properties , but stew’s comfort factor more than a way beyond protecting you from the chill . It’s all about those soft and chunks of food and vegetables, swimming in a thick, ultra-rich gravy. The more they come together creates the ultimate comfort food, no matter the weather.
