Meal Prep Soup Base

I use this basic recipe as a base for Meal Prep Sunday: I make a large batch and eat it for lunch over the week. I add different spices to individual cups to vary the day’s flavor. Ground chipotle or curry for heat, ginger or fresh herbs for aroma, etc.

Assemble cannellini beans, tomatoes, onions, carrots, spinach, celery, salt, bouquet garni, and bay leaves in a slow cooker. Pour in enough water to cover. Cook on Low or High until carrots are tender and flavors meld, at least 3 hours. Serve immediately or cool to room temperature. Ladle portions into reusable containers and refrigerate.

The name of “stew” can process to both a food and a make dishes method. Stewing involves slowly cooking chunks of meat, raw fruit or beans in a flavorful water based . It’s same as to braising, instead it does have a few piece of differences. The meat is chopped into smaller pieces instead of being cooked whole , and the liquid completely covers the essential in a stew as different to a braise’s halfway full . When meat or vegetables are cooked using this method, the resulting dish is called stew.

Stew has a reputation for being a rib-sticking meal that warms you up on a cold , winter day. It’s true ; a bowl of old menu of beef stew does have warming properties , but stew’s comfort factor goes way beyond protecting you from the chill . It’s all about those tender chunks of meat and vegetables, swimming in a thick, ultra-rich gravy. The way they come together make the ultimate comfort food, no matter the weather.
