Pumpkin Stew

This is a marvelous autumn potluck dinner. Everyone will be very impressed with this thick beef stew made and served in a pumpkin shell! Use a 10- to-12 pound pumpkin; be sure not to overbake!

Step: 1

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Place beef in the saucepan and cook until evenly brown. Mix in the water, potatoes, carrots, green bell pepper, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer approximately 2 hours.

Step: 2

Dissolve the bouillon into the beef mixture. Stir in the tomatoes.

Step: 3

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).

Step: 4

Cut top off the pumpkin and remove seeds and pulp. Place the pumpkin in a heavy baking pan. Fill the pumpkin with the beef mixture. Brush outside of the pumpkin with remaining oil.

Step: 5

Bake in the preheated oven 2 hours, or until tender. Serve the stew from the pumpkin, scraping out some of the pumpkin meat with each serving.

The word “stew” can process to both a dish and a make dishes method. Stewing makes not fast cooking chunks of meat, raw fruit or beans in a tastefull water based . It’s similar to braising, instead it does have a few notable differences. The meat is chopped into few of pieces but of being cooked whole , and the water based material completely covers the contents in a stew as compared to a braise’s halfway full . When meat or raw fruit are cooked using this method, the resulting dish is called stew.

Stew has a reputation for being a rib-sticking eating process that comfortable you up on a freezing , winter day. It’s right that ; a bowl of old menu of beef stew does have warming featured food , but stew’s cozy factor goes way beyond protecting you from the chill . It’s all about those tender chunks of food and vegetables, swimming in a thick, ultra-rich gravy. The way they come together creates the greatest comfort food, no matter the weather.
